Bath Towel Odors! Even after i was them w/ amonia, they start smell musty a day or two after we use them!?

Even when i wash them with hot water (knowing that could fade them) and i use Downy's liquid fabric softner and Arm %26amp; hammer softner sheets in the dryer. The towels smell GOOOODD fresh out the dryer and into the cabinet, but after a shower or two, they start to stink up the whole bathroom. I hate it, and being pregnant I'm very sensative to smells and pick up on them easy! I also live in a apartment so i can't afford to do laundry weekly. What can i do to keep them bath towels from being so musty so fast?Bath Towel Odors! Even after i was them w/ amonia, they start smell musty a day or two after we use them!?
We had the same problem with our dish towels. It's probably something to do with the contents of the water, since it never happened before in any other home. Have your water tested, maybe you need a filter or a (better) water softener.

I have the SOLUTION for you! Believe it works. I had the same problem. Wash your towels in HOT water, in the rinse cycle add 1 cup of Vinegar. Do not add Fabric Softner. After the rinse is complete, rerinse and then dry. What happens is the Fabric softner and detergent builds up in the towels and they are not getting completely clean. It is leaving a residue on them. The vinegar will rinse that away. Make sure towels are completely dry and take out a immediately. If they sit in the dryer, the heat from the dryer will cause moisture and will stick to the towels.

I use Borax with my detergent for my towels. And after you use one hang it up immediately. Hope this helps!
I have the same problems. And also with my wash cloths too. I have no idea why! Sorry I cannot answer your question but I can let you know you are not the only one.
Hang them on pants hangers by the clips near your heater. That should help them dry out.





Is your apartment damp? You may need a dehumidifier to pull the dampness out. That should take care of your problem. You would be astounded at how much water can come out of the air in a house. In our rental house we could pull out 5 gallons a day.





Pregnancy doesn't help the sensitivity. Keep taking your vitamins. Because they will help your sensitivities.

We use beach towels after showering and they never get musty. But we live in Florida and our Heat Pump goes year round. Besides heating and air conditioning it pulls the dampness out of the house.

For a temporary fix, put dryer sheets in the cabinet where you store them. For a long term fix, find out why they do that and correct the problem....example: is the washing machine in damp basement, allowing mold and mildew to build up in the machine and onto your clothes? Have the landlord run a load with no laundry and lots of bleach...
After using a bath towel, I hang them fully flat on the shower curtain rod. That way they dry thoroughly and don't pick up odors from bacteria that would thrive on a moist towel. After hanging them with no folds, if you still have a problem because of your sensitive nature, lightly spray the towels with the disinfectant version of Febreeze,or Lysol disinfectant spray. Hi I think a lot of us have some sort of similar problem. I would try to keep the air in that room moving if possible ,some sort of ventilation to get moisture out of there.Another thing which might help is keep those towels in large seal able bags.If the air does not get to the towels,they will not give off an Oder.Possibly keep a air freshener in room to help you with sensitive smell problem.Good Luck
