Pistolpe has good suggestions. Especially with the tile idea. But I don't really get-on-board with plastic anchors in drywall for a towel hook. Towel hooks take a lot of abuse as far as getting pulled and tugged on. I like Human Being's idea about using a wood plaque. But you can bypass the wood plaque too, IF, a stud is directly behind the wall where you want to mount the hook. A screw directly into the stud, and not relying on the drywall is always the better option. What would hold a metal bath towel hook on a wall?
don't know if you're uk or not, but here (uk) we have a delivery catalogue called Betterware and they do a metal stick on towel holder that will NEVER come off it is such a tight stick. hope it helps
if you have drywall, I would suggest mounting the hook to a piece of wood first (a nice, stained piece of wood), and then screwing it into a stud in the wall
Uh, screws would be a good start.
