I can use a clean towel to dry off with and as soon as it gets wet it puts off a foul odor. What can I do to get rid of this problemAs soon as my clean bath towels get wet they get an odor what can I do to get rid of this problem?
I had the exact same problem when I bought a new washer that was front-loading. Water pooled in a fold of the rubber seal around the door.
I used a bleach alternative cause I don't react well to bleach, so I had to use this stuff called Approach. It was a miracle.
After each wash, I left the door to the washer open. This let the inside dry out rather than keeping it shut and letting mold and bacteria grow (like ventilating the bathroom when you have a hot shower)
When I pulled everything out, I would soak up what water I could from the little pool in the gasket, then I would spray the inside of the washer with the approach, and pour a little into the pool of water that I couldn't reach. This would kill any latent bacteria and totally eliminate the odor, but since it's natural, it doesn't react w/my skin like bleach does.
Give it a shot, it's a miracle and it's the only way I've been able to put up with my washer!
Good luck!As soon as my clean bath towels get wet they get an odor what can I do to get rid of this problem?
to much bacteria in your wash water. this bacteria along with the build up of detergents over time have cause this. but all is not lost there are technologies out there that solve your problem by kill the bacteria in the water and eliminating your need on detergents, hot water and fabric softeners.
go buy new towels
Wash your towels in HOT water..Use a cup of vinegar in the rinse cycle. The vinegar is an odor eater. It will smell like vinegar until you dry it. Once you dry the towels they should have no smell. Good Luck =0)
Sounds like the towels might be sitting in the washer too long before being dryed. Once wet again a mildew odor comes back to life. There are special products too in the detergent isle marked to help remove odor. Also see the below FAQ which indicates ';Check items for odor. Usually several washings are needed to fully remove odor. Once odor is eliminated, line dry in the sunlight. Do not dry in the dryer because heat will set any lingering odor. ';
Are you removing your laundry immediately after it is finished washing? Sometimes laundry, towels in particular, take on an odor if they are not removed from the washer %26amp; hung to dry or placed in the dryer right away. Items can begin to mildew with the lid closed on the washer %26amp; the damp clothing packed together with no air circulation. You will not usually notice that this has happened until you use the item..... drying off with a towel, perspiring in a tee shirt, etc. then the odor becomes apparent... SO.....
1) Wash smaller loads - Do not over pack the washer to be sure everything can move freely %26amp; get as clean as possible
2) Use the proper amount of detergent
3) Use Arm %26amp; Hammer Baking Soda during rinse cycle if needed
4) Remove clothing/towels immediately %26amp; dry!!!!
Wash your towels in HOT water only. Also add bleach to the mix. This'll kill any bacteria that cling incesantly to towels and the like.
Hopefully this cures it.
