Why does my bath towel smell bad?

I live with 2 other room mates and we all leave out bath towels in the bathroom after showering and drying off. We have three hooks, which are all identical, where the towels go. I clean myself thoroughly after showering and actually use the same shampoo and soap as my room mates. However, after 3 or 4 showers my towel begins to smell very mildewing and musty, whereas their towels still smell clean. We all use the same towels as well. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there anything I might be doing to cause the mildew smell? Why does my bath towel smell bad?
Wash the towel,I use a towel once then it gets washed.Hanging around damp makes it smell bad.Why does my bath towel smell bad?
The reason would be: The bathroom is a tight space. The moisture of the room, the toilet water, the dirty laundry can be absorb by towels especially those that are like a cotton substance. imagine this; You are boiling a water on a pot, you see steam coming out. Now, put something that can be mixed up with the water that has an odor. Now, putting a towel on it by few minutes you might smell the odor that you mixed up with the boiling water. For the clothes, their stench can roam around the bathroom since it is part air and can be compressed. Now, the stench can be absorbed by anything that is wet or can be a absorbant. I hope you get what I mean.
Those above answered really well on giving you suggestions with your nasty and smelly towel. You need to change your towel every couple of days. That is just nasty to keep too long and not having it hung properly to dry out.

What will really help is having a dehumidifier. I have mine on whenever I shower and a couple of hours afterward to ensure that most of the moisture is gone. I have the one from Sears for $200. However, you can get a small one around $35 on ebay.
Do you use a different powder to wash your towel in?

Some powders (especially the biological powder) can do this, as odd as it sounds! Another possibility is that your particular hook is in a position where yr towel does not dry out as efficiently. You must have complete circulation of air around it.
switch shampoo %26amp; soap. are you an athlete? you may need to switch to something scented. %26amp; wash that towel in a clean smelling detergent.

another option is to keep your bath towel separate from the others %26amp; see if your roommates are goofing with you.
';after 3 or 4 showers my towel begins to smell very mildewing and musty';

self explanatory.

stop using it so many times and start washing it more often.!
maybe they use your towel, so yours smells bad without telling u. there playing jokes on u. u have 2 get even and wipe down the shower recess and around the back of the toilet with there towels.
Maybe there's not enough air or vent to dry it out... Try using a fabric softener after washing the towel it it will leave a lasting good smell. I just love the scent of Comfort Spring Dew... try it!
Eww. . .stop using the same towels! No wonder your towel smells. Do you realize that's unsanitary?
Your towel is not drying thoroughly.
well what u need to do is after you use your towel let it hang spreded out.

my mom gets on my case if i dont.lol (im 14)
maybe there is more water on yours after you get out of the shower and use it, making it take longer to dry, causing the smell. try to shake off a little haha so you dont soak your towel.

also do you use soap when you wash the towel?

or you could try just washing it more often:)
