When I was five (DON'T ask how long ago :) my grama made beach where cover ups from two towels.
Lay the two towels with any embroidered detail or design facing each other. Stitch across ';shoulders';, and under arms to knee.
You can cut off the shoulder seam to half an inch turn right side out and cinch the waist with a ribbon.
For me and my sister, gram sewed two hand towels with fringe on the top and bottom on the right side and left the fringe to fall over our shoulders. It was cute on a little girl.
