Is there something I can add when I wash them to remove the smell? How do I get the smell of cat urine out of my bath towels?
Go to Sams Club and get a product called Odor Ban.. that will kill the smell of cat urine on anything... they have instructions on putting it in the laundry... we have tried it and it works. How do I get the smell of cat urine out of my bath towels?
I tried this product and so far it has worked. I've only done one load with it, and it seems to have alleviated the problem. Thank you!

I agree with the first answer. Oda Ban I used this stuff in my home. It is a good disinfectant and deodorizer.

Try washing them in hot water with 1 1/2 cups of Borax added. After the washer has filled and started to agitate, turn off the agitation and let soak for an hour, then let it finish the cycle. Don't run fabric softener in the load--instead, add about 1/2 cup white vinegar to the rinse and make sure you dry the towels COMPLETELY.
Hopefully that'll do the trick-- it gets rid of a lot of nasty smells. Good luck!
Straight white vinegar.:)
you can get really nice towels at walmart for $2.44 no lie. they are big and fluffy. you need to throw those bad boys out!
Maby you could try hand washing the bath towels.
Can I send my cats to live w/ your daughter??? Just kidding. I used to have a habit of tossing my laundry onto the floor in order to sort them. Guess how I ended up with the same problem???
I'm going to assume these are not brand new towels (and even if they were/are) I'm willing to live with ';personal'; towels that are less than perfect looking. You'll understand that in a sec.
I solved my cat odor problem by washing in hot water, extra long cycle with chlorine bleach. If they are Color fast and lighter colored you are good to go. Dark Colors, (I'm talking navy's, hunter green, reds etc.) wash separately but again in the HOT water cycle, yes, you may have some fading however, beats the alternative of replacing towels.
If the bleach %26amp; hot water suggestion doesn't work, look into a professional grade pet odor remover and add it to your laundry. I know Wal-Mart has some that aren't 'professional grade' but have worked fine on our carpets. The best news is, they are perfectly safe around humans and safe for fabric/carpets (many of which are not color fast). Again, use the hottest water possible and add in an appropriate amount of pet odor remover (carpet cleaner) based on the amount of water your washer holds HOLD THE DETERGENT!!!!
You may have to 'guess' on the last bit but in this case, add in an amount equal to the normal amount of detergent you would for your usual wash load. If 'not enough suds' add a bit more.
Re-wash after trying this as there is no guarantee that our skin will not be sensitive and you may even wish to to an extended or extra rinse cycle.
Good luck!

First off (and I am no employee of the makers of Tide) I have tried sooo many bargain detergents but nothing cleans like Tide. Seriously.
I assume you are talking about colors here, or we'd simply bleach the heck out of them if they were white. Have you tried febreeze deodorant? Oxyclean? Presoaking? If commercial laundry products aren't helping you may have a different issue- mildew as it forms in laundry smells identical to cat urine! You may have a problem with moisture in your home not fully drying and getting into your laundry.
buy some new ones
Like another poster, I've used vinegar to remove many an offensive odor. If that doesn't work, try No Scent laundry detergent for hunters - it removes all scent from clothing so animals can't detect hunters' human smell. I used it on a bathroom rug our foster dog peed on and he never did it again.
The best way is to dump them and buy new. There are some excellent towels in charity shops- especially those dealing with people who no longer need towels. I have recently found Horrockses and Christie towels.
